National Sports Governance Bill 2025

Mr Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports.

The new Bill makes some changes to the strict rule about the age limit for sports administrators. Earlier people over 70 could not contest in sports body elections. But now, the Bill allows people aged between 70 and 75 to contest, if the international sports body for that game does not have any objection. This gives a chance to experienced people to stay involved, but only if it follows global rules.

Also, the Bill clearly says that when it comes to sports elections, the rules of the Olympic Charter and international sports federations will be followed. This means India will accept the authority of global sports rules over its own in these cases. It is a step to make sure Indian sports bodies follow international norms, helping the country avoid any conflict with global sports organizations and keeping athletes’ chances of playing in world events safe.
