New UPI rules from from 01 August 2025 : Whatchanges for peoples ?

Key changes include limits on balance checks, autopayments, transaction recipient, and improvements for UPI transaction efficiency.

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced a new guidelines to enhance the efficiency and reliability of UPI transactions in India. Measures changement such as checking balance enquiry requests, autopayments, transaction recipient visibility, and improved payment status updates.

In new UPI rules balance enquiry requests

For users most UPI app like Phonepe, Google pay will allow 50 times per day to check bank balance. UPI apps will also be able to limit or stop balance enquiry requests to reduce the load on UPI during most active hours. From 01 August 2025 users will be able to see automatically the available balance in their account with every and each transactions.

Access limit on bank accounts linked to UPI

In the new guidelines users view their list of bank accounts linked with mobile number through a specific bank in the UPI app. The List Account API helps users see their bank accounts linked to their mobile number in the UPI app. Users can use it only 25 times per day as per NPCI rules. The API should be used after the user selects their bank. If the account list doesn’t show then the app ask the user before trying again to avoid too much load on the system.

Major positive things for users

Before sending money to other person sender will see the details of the receiving person. This helps to stop mistakes, scam and avoid sending money to the wrong person. The UPI app will show the receiver’s registered correct name and the transaction ID details.If apps or banks do not follow these rules NPCI can take strict actions against those UPI apps. This includes blocking UPI services, adding fines, stopping new users or other steps. These new rules aim to make online payments safer and more reliable in India.

Transaction status for users

Many people face delays in payment during peak hours. Balance is deducted from the sender’s account but the receiver doesn’t get it immediately money. From 01 August it will be change, the payment status will update within seconds. Users can check payment status only 3 times and there must be a 90 second wait between checks.
