The target of 193 seemed small to India But…..
Yashasvi Jaiswal was out for a duck, giving India a rocky start. Karun Nair and the still-unout KL Rahul attempted to stabilize the innings. However, after scoring just 14 off 33 balls, Nair was dismissed in the 13th over, handing the wicket to Brydon Carse. Then, England’s aggressive bowling squad relentlessly pressed captain Shubman Gill. Gill was caught off Carse’s bowling after facing just nine balls and scoring six runs.
To stabilize things, India sent in fast bowler Akash Deep as a nightwatchman. Unfortunately, he too fell, dismissed by Ben Stokes in the final over of the day. KL Rahul (33*) will resume the innings on Day 5 alongside new batter Rishabh Pant. This situation isn’t unfamiliar for them — they had to rebuild the innings together under similar pressure in the first innings as well.
Carse and Jofra Archer will be crucial for England to keep up their momentum from the day before. Carse bowled excellently, giving up just 11 runs at an economy of 2.75 and getting two wickets in four overs with one maiden. In addition, Archer took a wicket, conceding 18 runs at an economy rate of 4.50 in four overs.
India’s top order failed miserably while batting score was 71 runs with 5 wickets. Team India came into slightly better position thanks to Bumrah and Jadeja. But England’s bowlers dominated India badly and wickets kept falling one after other. Jadeja played a brilliant innings of 61 runs 181 balls (4s-4 & 6s-1).
Bad luck did not favour India & Siraj, India got all out for 170. England defends 192, beats India by 22 runs at Lord’s
